Go BAD to be MAD
As the year draws to a close, I look back on how far we’ve come, and I’m grateful for everything with which God has blessed me.
Then I think about how much further we can go, as network marketers, as family members, and as part of society.
We often speak about being MAD or “making a difference”, whether at home, at the workplace, or in your community. Making a difference can be an extremely enriching experience, not only for the person you’re helping, but also for yourself. But before you can make a real difference, you first need to be the difference. As Gandhi put it so well, “Be the change you want to see in the world”.
Many people have a mind-set that I call “Have-Do-Be”:
“If I had more money,
I could do more,
and be a better person.”The “have-do-be” approach
I find this to outlook to be too passive, because you depend on something or someone else, to move you to act.
Why not just be a better person? I call this inside-out approach, “Be-Do-Have”:
“I choose to be a better person,
so I do more,
and if I have rewards,
that’s a bonus.”The “be-do-have” approach
For me, this is the ideal way to make a difference – you become the difference and act because you genuinely want to help, without expecting anything in return. Soon, helping becomes second nature and a way of life.
The “Be-Do-Have” approach is very much at the heart of what QNet stands for: being in-service: serving without quantifying, serving in a selfless manner – service above the self.
Narayanan Krishnan and the Akshaya team are a great example of “Be-Do-Have”. The young chef gave up his career to care for the homeless.
By being the difference, you can easily make a difference. To put it simply, be BAD to be MAD.
What do you think? Could this be a New Year’s resolution for you in 2012?
